Piqniq welcomed students from St Martin’s School Brentwood as part of Advertising Unlocked, the IPA (Institute of Practitioners in Advertising) initiative that introduces young people to careers in advertising, media, and the creative industries. As proud IPA Accelerators, this was our first time participating in the nationwide programme, and it proved to be an inspiring and invaluable experience for everyone involved.
Hosted and organised by Fidelma Fox and George Hughes, the event offered students a comprehensive, behind-the-scenes look at how advertising and media agencies operate. The structured programme included an in-depth session on how advertising campaigns are created, interactive Q&A discussions, and exclusive talks from leading industry partners including Vevo, The Walt Disney Company, Pearl & Dean, and Channel 4 Sales. These sessions gave students direct exposure to professionals working across major global media networks.
A standout moment of the day was the live brief challenge, where student teams pitched their creative campaign ideas for the chance to win cinema tickets (thanks to Digital Cinema Media and Pearl & Dean) and a range of branded media merchandise from Vevo and Channel 4. This hands-on activity provided students with a realistic insight into agency life, from strategy and ideation to pitching and presentation, essential skills for anyone aspiring to work in the advertising and media sector.
We extend our sincere thanks to all the students who took part and to every partner who supported the day. Your enthusiasm, creativity and curiosity made the event a true success. It was a pleasure welcoming you to Piqniq HQ, and we hope to see many of you pursuing future careers in advertising, media, and the wider creative industries.
